Over 15,000 pounds of trash cleared off beaches

The weather was finally clear as 188 volunteers arrived at area beaches for the 2014 Coastal Clean-up, known locally as Beach Sweep. They found plenty of trash to clean up. Area coordinator Nat Griffith reports that 147 volunteers registered in the Johnson Bayou area filled 452 bags and collected 12,797 pounds of trash on three miles of beach. At Rutherford Beach, 41 volunteers filled 80 bags, collecting 3000 pounds of trash on only one mile of beach. Read More
